Klinikum Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany -

The clinic is one of the largest in the region, seeing +23,000 patients a year, has 500 beds and 1,000+ staff, and hosts various specialities, from a surgical ICU to Pediatrics. The IMI Hydronic team won the project in August 2020 and finished it the following month.

To ensure no delays, the Hydronic team worked a demanding schedule that including weekends to meet the tight deadline.

The Project

The project was the renovation of a medical clinic in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The clinic is one of the largest in the region, seeing +23,000 patients a year, has 500 beds and 1,000+ staff, and hosts various specialities, from a surgical ICU to Pediatrics. The IMI Hydronic team won the project in August 2020 and finished it the following month.

The Hydronic Challenge

The project had several challenges. First, many renovations needed to be done in a brief period; secondly, it took place while the hospital was still operating. And finally, there was limited space in the technical room, so the solution had to ensure optimal functioning while using compact products. There was the challenge of all healthcare projects: the meeting of strict indoor conditions and the variety of indoor environments needed depending on the use of the space.

The Solution

The first change was to move from an oil and gas boiler system to a combined heat and power unit system (CHP) to meet the clinic’s strict regulations and needs. A CHP system allows water delivery in optimal conditions and with precise flow while reducing energy waste, making the system more sustainable.
The team also had to completely redesign the old pressure system with a new buffer tank to reduce energy use further as this new tank will use the return water to heat the outgoing flow. To have a state-of-the-art pressure maintenance system that was efficient and compact, the team opted for installing an IMI Pneumatex Transfer TV Connect 8.2, ensuring high performance and precision in high demand environments. An added plus is that the brain cube technology enables communication with the BMS system for easy maintenance and pressure corrections.
Given the clinic’s high demand HVAC system, the Hydronic team installed an IMI Pneumatex Zeparo G-Force 250 with cyclonic technology. This solution increases the system’s life span keeping it free of corrosive elements such as dirt and magnetite.
To ensure no delays, the Hydronic team worked a demanding schedule that including weekends to meet the tight deadline, which they did successfully.
