The challenge
The new Olympic Center Stadium in Tianjin covers 78,000 square metres and seats over 60,000 spectators. The stadium is one of the premier venues built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, during which it hosted football matches in the Chinese port city of 10 million inhabitants. In addition to serving as a world-class athletics complex, the site also features a four-level international convention hall, a health care centre, retail outlets and restaurants. The multi-function facility puts a high demand on the heating and cooling system. To achieve a comfortable indoor climate and maximize efficiency, the correct flow of water must be delivered to each section of the complex.​​
The solution
The IMI Indoor Climate China team worked closely with project consultants hired by the Tianjin government to demonstrate the concept of hydronic balancing and the value it brings to new builds in terms of improved energy efficiency and precise climate control. Recognising the inherent benefit of the hydronic system, the customer decided to specify IMI balancing products on every terminal unit. IMI Indoor Climate China delivered design, expertise and technical support for the project, guaranteeing the optimal environment throughout the various halls, stadia and retail outlets and ensuring that the state of- the-art facility will remain an important fixture in Tianjin well after the Olympics.​
