6 energy facts that can make your home more energy efficient
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (‘HVAC’) systems sit at the heart of every renovation project. At IMI Hydronic, renowned for its engineering expertise combined with hydronic knowledge and experience, we have identified key energy insights that could create energy savings to be made in nearly every HVAC system.
Fact 1: In heating systems, the room temperature being 1°C too high costs 6% to 11% of the annual plant energy consumption.
In heating, the overconsumption of a building is directly linked to the temperature difference between the room temperature and the outdoor temperature.
Stable and accurate room temperature control provides comfort for people and it is one of the most effective ways to reduce building energy consumption.
Fact 2: In cooling systems, the room temperature being 1°C too low costs 12% to 18% of the annual cooling plant energy consumption.
In cooling systems, if the room temperature is, for instance, 23°C (73.4°F) instead of 24°C (75.2°F) (1°C (1.8°F) too low), it creates an overconsumption directly linked to the load on the building (internal and external heat gain).
Fact 3: Energy can be saved by reducing (heating) or increasing (cooling) the room temperature during the non-occupancy period or during the night.
The longer the setback period, the higher the energy saving!
Combining centralized setback programmes with local set-back devices enables energy savings of up to 20%.
Fact 4: Replacing old thermostatic heads (1988 or before) with modern ones can achieve energy savings of up to 7%.
Did you know that our IMI Heimeier Thermostatic Head K comes with effective and incredibly convenient energy-saving clips?
- The blue energy-saving clip can be inserted into the position you have chosen as the nighttime setback position. This way, the required temperature is set every evening without checking.
- The red energy-saving clip restricts the upper-temperature range and prevents any extremely high temperatures from being accidentally set.
Fact 5: Compared to manual valves, accurate thermostatic radiator valves provide energy savings of up to 28%.
The IMI Heimeier range of Eclipse products with AFC technology has been designed to achieve reliable hydronic balancing without any hassle. Solutions with this technology have been designed so that once the valve has been set to the correct value, the desired flow rate will not be exceeded regardless of the differential pressure.
Fact 6: A well-balanced heating or cooling system can provide energy savings of up to 35%.
We hope you found this information useful and that now you are ready to start the renovation journey into more energy-efficient homes.

7 home improvements that save money on your heating bill
With energy prices increasing and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC ) accounting for up to 20% of the world’s energy consumption energy even small changes in your heating and cooling system can contribute to lowering your energy costs. As indoor climate experts here at IMI Hydronic we would like to share some tips on how to save energy while enhancing your indoor comfort.
What is the cost of discomfort?
During cold weather, do the rooms close to the boiler are too hot, while the ones further away are too cold? If you answered yes, your system may be out of balance.
A badly balanced installation does not only not give the required comfort, but it also does not work under its optimum conditions.
