Optimal room temperatures for Hamburg’s new Astra Tower.

The challenge

Precise regulation of room temperature is required for a building complex designed in a futuristic style and located in the famous Hamburg district of St. Pauli. As well as housing state-of-the-art offices, it will also accommodate restaurants and shopping arcades.

The solution

The Astra Tower, due to be completed by the end of 2007, is set to become a landmark feature in the booming Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The 60-metrehigh building is part of the newly created "Hafenkrone" and, thanks to its unique view out over the harbour, will provide some of the most attractive work locations in Hamburg. The panoramic rows of windows, even from a distance, bear witness to a particularly elegant style of architecture, which has been designed by the celebrated firm of architects, "Engel & Zimmermann." The intention from the first was to equip this building with top-quality décor and fittings and hence it was decided from the outset to commission Heimeier – the leading producer of thermostatic valves and many-times winner of countless independent product tests – as the partner responsible for the installation of room temperature regulating systems throughout the building.

The heating system uses convectors in the flooring below the windows. Regulation of the 1,000 convectors will be carried out by Heimeier’s thermostatic valve, V-Exact, and the K head in the striking black model. A total of 1,000 Heimeier lockshields have also been specified. Precise hydronic balancing will be achieved with the recently developed valve system known as Vario, which guarantees an optimal distribution of heating-circuit water.
