Smart collaboration. IMI HE + Enerbrain

Maximising Building Energy Efficiency with a Next-Generation HVAC Solution

IMI Hydronic Engineering and Enerbrain have merged their expertise to create a breakthrough smart HVAC solution that will contribute to the world's energy transition.

With HVAC systems accounting for up to 20% of global energy consumption, optimising their performance is crucial in addressing the pressing climate and energy crisis. Together, we are shaping the future of HVAC by bridging the gap between hydronic circuits and Building Management Systems (BMS), enabling a holistic and optimised approach to building energy efficiency.

By leveraging IMI Hydronic Engineering's expertise in advanced hardware and Enerbrain's IoT intelligence, we have developed an automated solution that optimise air handling units, significantly reducing energy consumption while providing sustainable comfort.

We do the work, you reap the benefits

Today’s renovation challenge

In Europe, 35% of buildings were constructed before 1970, therefore it is expected that most of its building stock will have to undergo serious renovation to meet the continent’s ambitious carbon neutrality goals by 2050. Also, it is estimated that 75% of the current building stock is energy inefficient*.

The surge in the renovation of buildings poses significant challenges, as electrical and hydronic plans may have been lost over time or became obsolete due to the incorporation of ad hoc building extensions and modifications. These modifications often fail to consider the HVAC system as whole, leading to various inefficiencies and hydronic issues such as flow incompatibility.

Addressing such issues requires a thorough understanding of both hydronic and control systems, which are often regarded as separate worlds. However, this brand collaboration brings these two fields together.

Leveraging our combined expertise, we can provide an end-to-end solution that significantly enhances system performance and reduces operating costs.

Precise control leverages intelligence

The TA-eSmart Solution

TA-Smart valve

A highly accurate control valve with continuous measurement capabilities of temperature, flow and power. Its compact size (F1 length for DN65-125) enables easy mounting.

eNode Control box

Versatile controller for field devices. Simple wiring process that reduces the need for system integrators and complex BUS systems. eGateway enables internet connectivity without local network integration

eSense Room temperature sensors

Wireless ambient sensors provide precise and real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels without requiring wiring or calibration.

Enerbrain Cloud & WebApp

Collected data is stored in the cloud, where smart algorithms are applied to optimise performance. Accessible through a user-friendly web app interface, you can easily adjust setpoints, visualize the status of your buildings, monitor energy consumption over time and compare performance to demonstrate tangible return on investment (ROI).

Why upgrade your Air Handling Unit with TA-eSmart

1

15-20% energy savings

Hydronic optimisation and smart control generate significant energy savings both on the thermal and electrical side.

Leveraging data to identify and resolve unknown system inefficiencies also leads to additional 6% savings.

2

Retrofit solution

TA-eSmart can be retrofitted regardless of the current controller brand or type.

Unify and manage all AHUs from one platform for seamless control.

3

Low CAPEX

Lower capital expenditure with typical payback <24 months.

Quick installation and commissioning with existing controllers and easy integration of control boxes.

Replace only control valves on the water-side, minimising device replacements and reducing technical complexity.

4

Flexibility

Compatible with most controllers using analog and binary outputs.

Decentralised system allows easy addition of sensors and control boxes without impacting system governance.

Roll out gradually or in phases, utilizing the Cloud for enhanced asset utilisation and reduced renovation time.

5

Fast installation

End-to-end solution with reduced project management time and costs.

Streamlined process requires fewer stakeholders and expert involvement.

Control boxes quickly installed by 1 plumber/mechanical installer and 1 electrician, enabling AHU to be fully operational within a day.

6

Improved thermal comfort

Optimised indoor conditions by adjusting to real-time values of temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂ levels (T+ RH + CO₂).

Remote setpoint adjustments and flexible scheduling for personalised control.

System can be adjusted in advance to accommodate specific event requirements.

TA-eSmart

Our Risk-Free Business Model

Recognising the potential barriers associated with high CAPEX investments, we have taken steps to mitigate these costs.
With TA-eSmart, the only investment required is the purchase of TA-Smart valves. We will cover the costs of additional equipment, as well as a portion of the installation and commissioning process. If we are not able to achieve the operational cost savings defined at the beginning of the project, we can terminate it and remove the control boxes and sensors installed and revert it to the previous system parameters.

Thorough Performance Assessment

To ensure we measure performance accurately, the project is ran on on-off phases. During those phases, the system is periodically put in bypass mode to gather performance data between the “new” system and the “old” system for comprehensive comparison.

Confidence in Long-Term Value

While we offer a risk-free solution, we are confident in the long-term value of TA-eSmart and believe that at the end of the pilot project we will be discussing how to implement the solution on a wider scale. Our goal is to deliver sustainable energy savings and enhanced comfort that will benefit your organisation in the long run.

Case studies

Erwitte

IMI Hydronic Plant Erwitte, Germany

IMI Hydronic, in collaboration with Enerbrain, worked to identify the best solution to ensuring minimum energy consumption and comfort optimisation by implementing a TA-Smart based solution at one of its manufacturing sites.

Astri

Astri Shopping Mall, part of Astri Group in the Nordics

The HVAC system of the shopping mall mainly consists of Full Air Handling Units (AHU), that serve the different areas of the building. Since October 2019 Enerbrain has been monitoring indoor environmental conditions in these areas and controlling the corresponding AHUs with advanced intelligence systems, which ensure that heat, cool and fresh air are delivered based on the actual operational conditions and needs.

Royal Court

Royal Court of Appeals in Gothenburg, Sweden

The Royal Court of Appeal for Western Sweden is in central Gothenburg. The building is 6 stories tall and hosts 110 offices, 8 courtrooms and a library in 5,070 sqm. The building is owned and operated by Platzer commercial real estate company managing 800km2 of property in western Sweden.

The building has had problems with the cooling system for a long time; optimal comfort could not be achieved in the offices and courtrooms.
