Outram Community Hospital

Optimal performance for comfortable indoor environment.

The Project

The Outram Community Hospital (OCH) is part of the Singhealth Community Hospital group in Singapore. It is a 19-story building with 545 patient beds and hosts
various rehabilitation spaces.

The project was won in 2017, with the Hydronic team receiving an order for various products and finalized in 2019 after the team ran their analysis. The key objective of the analysis was to optimise the pump consumption and ensuring the optimal performance of the installed products providing a comfortable indoor environment for all users of the hospital.

The Analysis and Findings

First, a team of IMI Hydronic experts ran a preliminary analysis at several points of the Hydronic system, including all the terminal units – FCU, AHU - and local circuits, control valve authorities, and chiller efficiency. Data was collected using our TA-SCOPE, a state-ofthe-art diagnostic measuring instrument. TA-Scope allowed the team to measure flow rates and pressure drops from each IMI TA-balancing valve at each of the AHUs and across the terminal units across the entire system. Once the data was collected and analyzed, it was compared to the original system design. The Hydronic team reached out to the project consultants to acquire design layouts, equipment schedule, and schematics.

The data gathered was input into the HySelect software, allowing the Hydronic team to simplify complex hydronic calculations and determine the optimal pump setting, ensuring the correct pressure and flow rates to all terminal units. The solution also made sure proper temperatures were delivered to all the different hospital areas. Finally, even at a partial load, the system can ensure the correct flow rate maintaining the correct Delta T.

During the testing and commissioning of the hydronic system, the team validated that the numbers from the Hyselect calculation tool were the same as the measurements done in real-time on the site to give the customers complete peace of mind. Thanks to the optimisation activity put in place, the OCH reached a Chiller Efficiency that allowed it to obtain points that contribute to achieving Singapore’s Greenmark LEED Platinum Certification.
